
Dr. James M. DeJesus, DPM, FACFAS, is a board-certified podiatric surgeon with over 30 years of experience in foot and ankle surgery, medical education, and clinical leadership. He is board-certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics, with multiple recertifications, and has served as a former Board Examiner for the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Dr. DeJesus earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from St. John’s University and his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1987. He completed his podiatric surgical residency at the West Haven VA Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident.
He has completed advanced training in lower-extremity peripheral nerve surgery at Union Memorial Hospital, microsurgery at Columbia University, extracorporeal shock wave therapy through Dornier Medtech, and complex flatfoot reconstruction at the Orthopedic Learning Center. His clinical expertise includes reconstructive foot and ankle surgery and nerve disorders, and he serves as medical education faculty and a consultant for Arthrex Corp, Integra Corp, and OsteoMed Corp.
Dr. DeJesus currently holds surgical staff affiliations at St. Mary’s Hospital, Naugatuck Valley Surgical Center, Danbury Hospital, Waterbury Hospital, and Waterbury Surgery Center. He will become the Medical Director of Waterbury Surgical Center in 2026 and previously served as the Chief of the Podiatry Section at St. Mary’s Hospital from 2001 to 2020.
A dedicated educator, Dr. DeJesus has held academic appointments as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Temple University’s School of Podiatric Medicine, an Adjunct Associate Professor at the California College of Podiatric Medicine, and a Clinical Instructor at the University of Osteopathic Medicine & Health Science. He has lectured nationally and moderated advanced cadaveric surgical labs for podiatric surgeons and residents.
He is a Past President of the Connecticut Podiatric Medical Association (2020–2022), a Fellow of the American College of Foot Surgeons, and an active member of the Portuguese-American Health Professionals Association and the American Society of Podiatric Surgeons. Dr. DeJesus is also a published author in the Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery and Clinics in Podiatric Medicine & Surgery, contributing research on hallux valgus correction, peroneal subluxation, and arthritic foot management.
