
James M. DeJesus, DPM, FACFAS, FACFO
Dr. James M. DeJesus, DPM, FACFAS, is a board-certified podiatric surgeon with over 30 years of experience in foot and ankle surgery, education, and clinical leadership. He is board-certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics. He is a former Board Examiner for the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Dr. DeJesus earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from St. John’s University and his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, graduating Magna Cum Laude, from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, followed by a podiatric surgical residency at the West Haven VA Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. He has completed advanced training in lower-extremity peripheral nerve surgery, microsurgery at Columbia University, extracorporeal shock wave therapy, and complex flatfoot reconstruction. Dr. DeJesus serves as Site Director at Naugatuck Valley Surgical Center for the Yale Podiatric Surgical Residency Program and will become Medical Director of Waterbury Surgical Center in 2026. He is a Past President of the Connecticut Podiatric Medical Association, a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and a published author in peer-reviewed journals. He has been in private practice at Family Footcare, PC since 1990, providing comprehensive podiatric care in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Betty M. Carreira, DPM
Dr. Betty Carreira, DPM, is a podiatric surgeon providing comprehensive foot and ankle care at Family Footcare, PC. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Connecticut College, with majors in History, Biochemistry, and Cell & Molecular Biology, graduating Cum Laude, and received her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in 2008.
Dr. Carreira completed her podiatric medicine and surgical residency at Roxborough Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia, serving as Chief Surgical Resident from 2010 to 2011. She completed formal introductory and basic training in Hyperbaric Medicine at Waterbury Hospital in 2019.
She is board-certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and holds active surgical staff privileges at St. Mary’s Hospital, Danbury Hospital, Waterbury Hospital, Naugatuck Valley Surgical Center, and Waterbury Surgery Center.
Dr. Carreira has been in private practice at Family Footcare, PC since 2011. She is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Connecticut Podiatric Medical Association, and has presented clinical case research at national professional conferences. She provides care in English and Portuguese.


Austin Davidow, DPM
Dr. Austin Davidow, DPM, is a podiatric surgeon providing comprehensive foot and ankle care at Family Footcare, PC. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from William & Mary and his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine.
Dr. Davidow completed a three-year podiatric surgical residency at Saint Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, where he received broad training in the medical and surgical management of routine and complex foot and ankle conditions within a hospital-based setting.
He is board-certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery (ABPS) and holds active surgical staff privileges at St. Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury Hospital, Danbury Hospital, Naugatuck Valley Surgical Center, and Waterbury Surgical Center.
Dr. Davidow is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Connecticut Podiatric Medical Association. He has authored peer-reviewed publications in nationally recognized medical journals, including research on population health and metabolic risk factors. He has been in private practice at Family Footcare, PC since 2024.
Michelle L. DeJesus, DPM
Dr. Michelle L. DeJesus, DPM, is a podiatric foot and ankle surgeon providing comprehensive medical and surgical care at Family Footcare, PC. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Delaware and her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine.
Dr. DeJesus completed a three-year podiatric foot and ankle surgical residency at Northwell Health–Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, where she served as Chief Resident during her final year (2024–2025). Her residency training included broad exposure to forefoot and rearfoot surgery, trauma, and complex podiatric pathology within a hospital-based setting.
She is board-qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (Forefoot) and holds active podiatry licensure in New York and Connecticut. Dr. DeJesus maintains active surgical staff privileges at St. Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury Hospital, Danbury Hospital, Naugatuck Valley Surgical Center, and Waterbury Surgery Center.
Dr. DeJesus joined Family Footcare, PC in 2025. She has contributed to podiatric research, including a literature review on intralesional MMR immunotherapy for the treatment of plantar warts, and practices with a commitment to evidence-based care.
